Doing all this thinking made me curious. I was looking over the parts supplied with the kit, and I picked up the bag of mast parts. plastic model kits are one thing......all of the parts are on sprues, and clearly numbered. I was starting to get that daunting feeling, when I tried to correlate the part numbers with the parts......are they really the right numbers associated with the parts? I pulled out what I guess you could call the blueprint of the ship, and further caused myself some doubt......it was so confusing! I took the frame and laid it on the drawing of the ship.......it fits the picture to a tee. so, am I to assume that the relative size of the parts on this sheet, are the correct size of the parts? I began laying the parts on the sheet that I thought fit the puzzle that laid before me, taking into account that the parts still need to be shaped and sanded. after sourcing out the parts where I thought they should go, I bagged them all separately and labeled them, so that I wouldn't lose track of what I had done.
I can always change them around when I am ready to cross that bridge. I had already found one mistaken part......the part that I thought was the bow spirit, is actually one of the parts for the stand! the dowels required for the stand are 3/16ths......I do have some raw stock, so in the event that I don't want to change this, I have some to compensate. this is where my drill gauge might come in handy, especially when starting from the deck holes. unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of all the parts laid out, but here are some of the sheet and the relative size of the ship frame.
I do wished the plans could have given me some dementions, but if this sheet shows the length of the parts, then I have something to go by. if the ship fits.........build it! AHOY!!!
